Trivia Question❓What day is Brainerd’s “Great Pumpkin Festival” scheduled? Answer at the bottom of the newsletter |
What happens when a small-town baker trades his apron for vintage style flannels?
In Nisswa's charming downtown, one man's spontaneous shopping trip turned into an entirely new career—and it all started with a Hamm's beer logo that reminded him of his grandfather.
Tony spent years perfecting sourdough and serving the Brainerd Lakes community from his bakery.
But on one fateful day off, he wandered into a quirky clothing store called The Angry Minnow... that would change everything.
"It wasn't just the clothes," he says, his eyes lighting up. "It was like stepping into my childhood memories."
Now at the helm of Angry Minnow, Nisswa's beloved vintage boutique, Tony has collected over 20,000 stories from customers who find themselves unexpectedly emotional over a flannel shirt.
There's the ice fishing tale, the father-son bonding moment, the nostalgic beer sign that brings tears—each piece of clothing unlocks something deeper.
But how did a baker become the guardian of Minnesota nostalgia?

Harvest pumpkins and winter squash when their rinds are hard enough to resist a fingernail scratch, signaling proper maturity.
Cut with a sharp knife, leaving 2 to 4 inches of stem attached to help prevent decay in storage.
Always handle gently to avoid bruising and spoilage.
Cure the squash after harvest in a warm, dry spot—80°F to 85°F—for about 10 days.
This step toughens the skin and heals minor damage, creating ideal conditions for longer storage.
Once cured, move squash to a cool, dry location between 50°F and 55°F, with 50% to 70% humidity.
Avoid storing near apples or pears, since their ethylene gas can reduce shelf life.
Check the squash regularly for soft spots or mold, and remove any affected produce right away.
With careful harvesting and storage, your pumpkins and winter squash can last through winter. Read More... |
