Local student-athletes showcase excellence on state, national, and international stages |
State Champions: Brainerd Adapted Hockey Team The Brainerd adapted hockey team has done it again! The Warriors completed their second undefeated season and captured the 2026 Minnesota State Championship in February. The team proudly posed with their first-place trophy after dominating the competition all season long. Adapted hockey provides opportunities for student-athletes with disabilities to compete at a high level, and Brainerd's program has become a model of excellence statewide. Their back-to-back undefeated seasons prove that dedication, teamwork, and community support create champions. Record-Breaking Strength: Daxum Hastings Brainerd High School student-athlete Daxum Hastings continues to rewrite the record books. At the 36th annual Sertoma Sunrise Warrior Liftathon on March 4, Hastings broke his own record with a mind-blowing 580-pound parallel squat. A crowd gathered at Brainerd High School to witness the incredible display of strength. The Sertoma Sunrise Warrior Liftathon has been a beloved community tradition for 36 years, raising funds for local causes while showcasing the incredible athletic talent in our schools. Competing on the World Stage: Annelise Baird While many of us were enjoying the mild weather, Brainerd's Annelise Baird was representing the United States at the Youth and Junior World Biathlon Championships in Arber, Germany. Baird competed in standing shooting stations, showcasing the unique combination of cross-country skiing and marksmanship that makes biathlon one of the most challenging winter sports. Having a local athlete compete internationally puts Brainerd on the world map and inspires the next generation of young athletes in our community. Celebrating Excellence From state championships to world competitions, Brainerd athletes are proving that our small community produces big talent. These achievements reflect not just individual dedication, but the support of coaches, families, and a community that believes in its young people. Congratulations to all our local athletes making us proud! |
